New Design - 2005

Development of the Retractable Side Mirror Parts

Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd.

This part possessed both product function and material strength by the adequate shape and material design. This was awarded by the evaluation that this won the cost competition with forged steel parts and was switched from die-casting parts. And to improve the reliability, the automatic resonant device was also developed and the new application was spread.

Sintered Stainless Pulley for Outboard Engine

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation

This was awarded by the evaluation that this established the production technology of large stainless parts that usually has many difficulties of production and developed the new application for outboard engine.

Nakanige Sintered Bearing and Brass Housing as One Unit

Porite Corporation

This was awarded by the evaluation that this made a good use of P/M characteristics by the performance improvement through making one body and fulfilled the huge cost saving.

Development of Sintered Piston Parts for Swing Compressor

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation

This was awarded by the evaluation that this established the production technology by the press compaction by improving the mixing powder technology and molding dies design to make a complicated shape to get good density balance, and also developed the new market for the new type compressor that is expected the expansion in the near future.

Development of Complex Designed Synchronizer Hub

Hitachi Powdered Metals Co., Ltd.

This was awarded by the evaluation that this established the technology to compact a very complicated shape of Synchronized hub and overcame the shape restriction of Powder Metallurgy.

High Temperature, High Speed and Long Life Sintered Bearing
for DLP Motor

Porite Corporation

This was awarded by the evaluation that through the development including new type of oil, this switched fluid dynamic bearing and ball bearing to P/M bearing in the field of DLP wheel motor bearing.

Development of P/M Parts for PCS (Pre-Crash Safety)

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation

This was awarded by the evaluation that by using several technologies, this established the new application for safety mechanism of vehicle in which the high reliability is demanded.

New Materials - 2005

Development of Valve Guide Material with Superior Machinability
and Wear Resistance

Hitachi Powdered Metals Co., Ltd.

This was awarded by the evaluation that this developed the new material to be able to use under the wide range of usage condition and contributed the usage expansion of sintered valve guide as global standard material.

Powder Forged Valve Sheets for Gas Engine with High Adhesive
Wear Resistance

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation

This was awarded by the evaluation that this developed new Pb-free valve sheet material to meet the environment requirement, and expanded the application to gas-engine which usage condition is strict.

Brake Lining for High-speed Vehicle in Next Generation

Fine Sinter Co., Ltd.

This was awarded by the evaluation that this material put to practical use for brake lining which was demanded to be able to use under maximum speed of 350 km/hr. That was the key for matching to high speed in railroad vehicle.

Process Development- 2005

Magnetic Detecting Gear for Spindle Motor

SURUGA SEIKI CO., LTD.

This was awarded by the evaluation that by the combination of P/M process and shaving process, this established the process to produce accurate sensor parts and developed the new application.

New Powders - 2005

Free-Machining Agent Suitable for High Speed Cutting or
High Strength Materials

KOBE STEEL, LTD.

The improvement of machinability is always important theme for P/M process. This was awarded by the evaluation that this solved the problem of current iron powder including MnS, and supplied the new free-machining agent with low cost. Also, it doesn't react with a sintering atmosphere.

Effort Prize - 2005

Sintered Part with a Slope for Exhaust Part

Fine Sinter Co., Ltd.

This was awarded by the evaluation that this established the compacting technology of high density stainless steel parts with slope shape. By using special design of molding dies, problem of seizing of molding dies was solved and kept a good density balance.

Sintered Part with Many Projected Shapes for Automotive
Transmission

Fine Sinter Co., Ltd.

This was awarded by the evaluation that this established the technology to compact the complicated shape with thin projected shape which usually difficult to compact by molding dies.
